i have a leviton rocker light switch how do you connect it?

I have one black wire, one white wire, and one red wire, no copper wire. On the right side of the switch it has 2 screws and on left it has a green screw. Where do i connect those wires? Because the switch works i connected it but it has a another problem. The switch im working on is on the wall to go to my basement when i turn the switch it off and go inside my basement there is another switch by basement door and the switch in the basement doesnt work if the switch by the entrance of the basement is turned off i do not understand the problem. Please help.

It sounds like you have two switches wired in series. You need a three-way switch (or switches) to run one light with two switches. Maybe you replaced a three-way switch with a standard one? The red wire probably is supposed to go from the second traveler terminal to the next switch, it's hard to know without seeing it. I suggest you get a book on wiring to understand what's happening, but basically, it has to be set up so that one switch turns on the other switch when you shut the light off, so that the other switch can turn the light on and shut that switch off. The idea is that only one switch at a time is controlling the light, so you don't have two live circuits on at one time like you would if you wired two regular switches in parallel, though some people do that.
