I highly recommend DEFENSE Nice's panel prep method. Even if you "accidentally" watched an hour or two of regular content, just start it now and watch anymore. I know that the idea is to get even pixel the aging process for accuracy of settings, but I do believe doing this also results in clearer colors, with less bleeding.
I see the entire thread over on High Def Junkies forum for the brightness flux. Now I've been keeping a vital eye on this Panasonic VIERA TC-P42ST30 42-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV since This breadmaker it (it's my 4th counting returns of 3 GT25's) and I had put together not noticed a problem with illumination adjustments during viewing. However, after reading the thread I chosen to pay more attention. To test irrespective of whether my TV suffered from brightness flux, I watched a movie which i thought would be an excellent evaluation, Dark City on BD, Director's slashed.
All I can say is i was very impressed with how your ST30 handled this movie. If anyone is familiar with it, you know that Dark City is filmed almost entirely in this eery night/twilight background. There are numerous scenes with inky black backgrounds, really brightly lit lights, and plenty of dark areas and contours. This TV really surpassed with flying colors. I actually got up many times to go stare at the screen during a particularly dark scene with good differentiation of bright localized lighting and I was able to not see any brightness flux, or even any light bleeding into dark aspects, etc...

Tried that "binary butterscotch" hi outl jpeg that someone posted a video of done to you Tube with his GT30 doing clear flickering, and the only thing I saw was an exceptionally brief moment of darkening of the blacks within the picture and then it was dependable.
Watched the opening scenes of Inception because someone about the thread mentioned their set did a great deal of this brightness flux on the initially 11 minutes... nothing... lights and darks were unshakable.
Now, I thought that I encountered quite a slight version of this issue on one occasion when watching hockey in 1080i concerning digital network broadcast. But I enjoyed hockey again yesterday, same channel, and I realized what I saw was the unit's interpretation on the camera flashes from people in the stadium sitting towards the camera but out of view, adding an backlighting effect with their flashes. Possibly not once did the white ice rink transform brightness or shades.
As a problem of fact, the only thing I can build that even comes close to being called these problem is if I have the white slide to the screen from the D Nice panel prep method and I start the ST30's main menu. Then I will see the white dim noticeably. However again, that's only when viewing the slides.
Now again, I'm a newb this kind of is an uncalibrated set, but I definitely noticed the panel changing when i broke it in. The ST30's look particularly... I dunno how to point out it... stiff, out of the container. Colors looked a bit dull it looked like the TV really didn't realize how to handle gradients, etc... but after any 100 hour panel prep, I seriously noticed images looking very sharp, styles bright and well defined, no bleeding into the other person. They seemed more accurate. Fast motion scenes held their color well as they definitely quickly passed across the pixels. After which it I really noticed another marked advancement right around 180 -190 hours.
Why don't we see... about the only other issue is lake choose 48hz while watching something on BD considering the player set to 24p I are able to see flickering in bright lights on the actual screen. When I change to 60hz, the item disappears.
The buzzing has not gotten any louder at all. It's quite soft. Heck, it vibrates at the same frequency as my fridge motor so for everyone I know it could all be attributable to dirty electricity from the utilities. They operate at 60hz so there needs to be some interference. Anyway, I can only hear the buzzing with audio off and sitting within 6 feet from the TV and even then the other electrical sounds inside the house tend to drown it out. It does change pitch with different colors but since i can hear the high-pitched whine on a CRT tv from any room inside your home it really doesn't bother me in the least. Of all my electronics the TV has become the most quiet of the bunch.
In terms of dead/stuck pixels I only have several. One goes dark on blue slides and another goes dark on red slides. I'll live with that because they both fire properly on all colors.
I have not been capable to watch any native 3D content but still (waiting for my Avatar BD), but 2D-3D is cool to see at first but before long it's not really noticeable unless there's getting some sort of graphic up on the screen then you certainly really get the depth perception. The television syncs up easily with my Xpand busy shutter 3D glasses.
Oh yes, I'm getting audio stutter on Netflix, but that only started recently, so for now I'm assuming it might be fixed with a firmware update. Plus it's not that big from a deal for me because we have DMP-BDT210 and that Netflix shows more movie choices anyway for reasons uknown so we primarily use it pertaining to streaming movies.
In conclusion, I know the ST30 line may be the lower, high end model and I'm sure it is far from perfect. But I really still find it the best value on the market for a 42" full HD, 3D television for under $1000. I am definitely a delighted ST30 owner.
