The Monster in the Corner – Tame it with a TV Wall Bracket
If you were drawing up a list of things most people couldn’t live without TV’s would be up there because there’s no getting away from it people just love their TVs. Whether it’s watching their favourite show, playing the latest DVD or Blu-ray (with the surround sound turned up loud) or playing the latest “shoot them up” video games, many of us spend a lot of time staring at the ‘box'.
Occasionally this “obsession” can get a little out of hand for some and when it does it leads to the obvious criticism that televisions and what’s on them are the root of all evil. The academics and social commentators all believe that we should collectively hit the off button more often and get out more. This is particularly true for children whose whole life can revolve around what’s on the box. Ultimately this can lead to health and behavioural problems. As ever it’s all about striking the right balance between different aspects of life.
Whether you own just one small portable 14” CRT TV or have a huge 50” LCD dominating your lounge its worth just thinking about how much TV you actually watch. But, because we now use the “TV” for gaming, viewing the Internet, watching movies etc. it’s not just a question of how much time you spend watching TV programs but how long you spend in front of the screen!
If your job involves you working in front of a PC monitor during the day add this to the amount of “screen time” you spend at home and you’ll probably be surprised if not a little shocked at the result.
With the growth in the amount of hours spent in front of the TV its important that you make sure the television is placed in a suitable spot. Avoid places where glare from the sun can hit the screen, don’t position the TV so you have to crane you neck to watch it. Consider wall mounting the TV. By using a good quality TV Bracket and if possible one that can be moved left, right and tilted slightly you can ensure you always have the correct viewing angle/position for the viewers.
If you have an older style “bulky” CRT and your budget will run to it and you’re an avid TV watcher then maybe now is the time to consider upgrading to a new Flat Screen HD TV. Not only will you get a better quality images that are easier on the eye but because you’ll be able to wall mount the TV on an adjustable TV bracket its going to be easier on you neck if not immediately on your wallet!
